Training Session on the Venice Commission by Professor Cesare Pinelli

On October 21st, ASSEDEL had the honor of organizing a training session conducted by Professor Cesare Pinelli, who, among his many distinctions, serves as a substitute member of the Venice Commission and is an emeritus Full Professor of Public Law Institutions at the Faculty of Law of Sapienza University of Rome Sapienza Università di Roma.

The session addressed various aspects of the functioning, composition, and activities of the Venice Commission, the consultative body of the Council of Europe. In particular, we gained insight into how the Commission operates in the field to reach the adoption of its opinions.

Furthermore, we had the opportunity to learn that the Commission’s work also extends to the organization of international conferences and the drafting of “Rule of Law checklists,” aimed at compiling the shared values that should guide each member State.

In the second part of the session, we had the opportunity to engage with the Professor, clarify any doubts or uncertainties about the topics discussed, and seek practical advice on how ASSEDEL can best contribute to the work of the Venice Commission.
