Team ASSEDEL’s Webinar with Prof. Helene Tigroudja

On October 1st, our team had the pleasure of hosting a fruitful webinar with Prof. Helene Tigroudja, a distinguished expert in International Public Law and Human Rights. Since 2022, Prof. Tigroudja has been one of the 18 independent experts on the Human Rights Committee, which operates under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The Committee monitors the implementation of the Covenant by its State members.

The presentation was insightful and structured into three key parts:

  1. Working Procedure: We learned about the Committee’s working procedure and the selection process for the individual experts serving on the Human Rights Committee.
  2. Covenant Responsibilities: We explored the responsibilities of member states under Article 41, which requires states to consider the Committee’s communications on civil and political rights violations.
  3. Optional Protocol: We were introduced to the Optional Protocol of the Covenant, which empowers the Committee to examine individual complaints regarding alleged violations by States parties.

The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session that provided further insights into the work of the Committee.
