ASSEDEL submits its report to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing ahead of his visit to the Netherlands

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing will visit the Netherlands from December 11 to 21, 2023. In this context, civil society is invited to provide its observations. ASSEDEL is therefore responding to this call by submitting the present report.

Although submitted by ASSEDEL, this report is supported by the Committee on the Rights of Migrants of the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe.

In its report, ASSEDEL addresses the issue of discrimination in the realization of the right to housing in the Netherlands, particularly for certain vulnerable groups.

The report highlights four crucial issues: a) the right to housing of people on low incomes; b) the right to housing of people with a migrant background, and in particular children from migrant families; c) the right to housing of people from the Traveler community; and finally, d) the right to housing of people from the LGBTQ+ community.

For each of these groups of vulnerable individuals, the ASSEDEL report analyzes the government and local policies adopted, and assesses their implementation.
