Human rights in Belgium : application of the Convention against Torture and other cruel, in human or degrading treatment or punishment

ASSEDEL has submitted a report to the United Nations Committee against Torture on a number of worrying Human rights violations in Belgium, and more specifically on a number of situations that appear to be in contradiction with the application of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

With regard to articles 1, 3 and 6 of the above-mentioned Convention, several civil society actors in Belgium are sounding the alarm about police violence, detention conditions, the principle of non-refoulement and the conditions of expulsions, extraditions and repatriations.

The report has been placed into the UN Treaty Body Database soon after its submission and available here.
