ASSEDEL has the pleasure of sharing that an open letter concerning the importance of the Istanbul Convention has been recently transmitted to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset. Supported by eighteen signatories, including 15 Members of the European Parliament and 3 Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the open letter specifically calls for:
- Un leadership politique renforcé pour préserver la Convention d'Istanbul,
- une ratification rapide et une mise en œuvre intégrale dans tous les États membres de l'UE,
- Reprendre le dialogue avec les pays qui se sont retirés, afin de les encourager à se réengager.
This represents ASSEDEL’s concrete action following our latest panel discussion: “15 Years of the Istanbul Convention: Renewing Our Commitment to Women’s Rights”, co-hosted by MEP Anna Strolenberg (Volt, Greens/EFA) that took place at the European Parliament in Brussels on April 13, 2026.
