ASSEDEL communicates to UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture prior to its 2022 country visits

United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT) has announced that they have a visiting agenda in 2022 including the countries of Argentina, Ecuador, Lebanon, Turkey, and Tunisia.

ASSEDEL has communicated United Nations SPT on the latest ill-treatment and torture cases in detention centers and prisons in Turkey. The report indicates the resurging violations of international and national laws on human rights, calls the Subcommittee to visit three major ill-treatment and torture centers and requests personal visits to the individuals in the named prisons. ASSEDEL envisions that visiting these establishments and interviewing the prisoners will provide valuable insights to the UN SPT to understand the realities and the high-level human rights violations that people experience in Turkey.
