Who are we?
ASSEDEL – The European Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms is a non-governmental organization committed to the defense of human rights, civil liberties, and democratic values across Europe.
OBJECTIVE:
In an era marked by increasing polarization, democratic backsliding, and a shrinking space for human rights, it is urgent for European nations to reaffirm and revitalize the project of unity and integration.
Now more than ever, Europe must come together — united not only by political and economic ties, but also by a common identity rooted in democracy, peace, and human rights.
As discrimination and racism resurface across the continent, we must once again see our diversity not as a source of division, but as our strength. The European Union was founded on values that must be lived, celebrated, and defended — not only in treaties, but in our hearts, our stories, our images, and our voices.
THE CONTEST:
To celebrate Europe Day, ASSEDEL invites you to take part in a creative contest, open to everyone, aimed at promoting the European identity we share.
This contest is part of the celebration of the Month of Europe, held throughout the month of May.
We accept the following formats:
– Drawings
– Photographs
– Videos
Each submission must be accompanied by a short description of around 200 words, explaining: the meaning and the message behind the work and how it reflects the values of unity, diversity, and European identity.
It is not necessary to be a professional artist to participate: what matters most is the message, its relevance, and its emotional impact. Authenticity, intent, and creativity are at the heart of the evaluation, which will be carried out by a jury composed of artists, activists, and experts in European culture.Prizes will be awarded to the most impactful contributions.
Your work should reflect:
– The beauty of European cultural diversity
– The strenght of our Unity through differences
– Our collective mission to defend Human Rights and fundamental freedoms
IMPORTANT DATES:
– May 9, 2025: Contest opens
– May 30, 2025: Contest closes
Through this contest, we also aim to show that Europe is not just a place, but a purpose. A community. A home.Together, let’s stand against hate and fear, and build a future where every difference is made visible, respected, and celebrated. Join us to make visible what unites us.
Let us draw, photograph, and film the soul of Europe.
