Comment on the Commission´s Türkiye 2024 Report

The European Commission’s 2024 annual report on Türkiye highlights significant concerns regarding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The report outlines ongoing challenges, including the deterioration of judicial independence, the restriction of fundamental freedoms, and increasing pressure on civil society.
In response, ASSEDEL has prepared a comprehensive commentary analyzing these findings and providing further insight into the widespread human rights violations.

Our report sheds light on arbitrary detentions, politically motivated prosecutions, and the systematic suppression of dissenting voices. It also examines the erosion of democratic institutions, and the discrimination faced by vulnerable groups, including the LGBTQI+ community.

Türkiye’s continued backsliding in democratic governance and its failure to uphold human rights obligations require urgent attention from European institutions and the international community.

ASSEDEL remains committed to advocating for fundamental rights and the rule of law. We invite policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors to explore our full analysis and recommendations: to read it, please click here.
